HOW I INTEND TO SERVE “DANFODITES”_James Gana Sule aka G. Sule
My name is James Gana Sule aka G. Sule. I am a 300 level student from the Faculty of Science,
Department of Biological sciences, Zoology unit to be precised.
It is my belief that the best way to serve the society or community is to put oneself on the hot seat of leadership.
It is this belief that has driven me forward, against all odds to make the decision of throwing my heart into the ring by presenting myself for your consideration.
Dear “Danfodites!”, I am aspiring to be your next financial secretary, God’s willing.
I have grown up to learn that doing nothing will never change anything, and there is nothing bad in trying to do something new and certainly there is no harm in trying.
I have come across so many people, who told me “venturing into politics is putting your degree in jeopardy” but I understand very well that it is nothing, but their own way of seeing it. These are the people who think that we are only in the University to acquire knowledge of only our respective courses. I differ on that perspective.
I see the University as a world, where one can carve niche for his or herself, in a way that at the end, one will be able to attain the standard expected of University students.
When it comes to politics on campus, it is give and take. Here, I don’t mean give and take as enjoying the goodies that come with office, but what I mean is both the student that serves as an SU leader and the ones being served are all beneficiaries. While the former benefits by learning the ropes and intrigues of leadership, the latter benefits from the selflessness of the former.
I would like to share with you, what I intend to bring to the table if elected as the financial secretary of this great institution of ours.
As the financial secretary it falls under my office to checkmate the activities of the Union that have to do with funds. And this, I am ready to do wholeheartedly, to the best of my ability.
The following agenda are just to mention but few of what I intend to bring to the table if elected, God’s willing:
1 Proper record keeping of all financial transaction of the Union
2. Blocking every route that money is looted out from the Union’s account.
3. Giving “Danfodites” feedback on what their funds are being used for at the appropriate time
4. Working with trust and integrity along side with other executives for adequate delivery of our duties
On the first agenda, as the financial secretary, record keeping will be my priority. I will, in collaboration with the Treasurer, ensure adequate and total record keeping of funds. The amount that comes into the account of the Union and the amount of money being spent will be strictly monitored under my supervision. I will also work hand in hand with the Sales Director in order to know what is being gained by the Union from the SU refreshment centers both in school and the hostel.
Secondly, under my watch as the financial secretary, I will ensure that funds are not misappropriated. I will watch with an eagle eye on the spending of money by the Union and ensure that there is no extravagance in spending.
Thirdly, I will be transparent as possible in my duties. I will welcome questions from “Danfodites” about what their funds are being used for. These are what I intend to do, in collaboration with the PRO if elected, God’s willing.
Fourthly, I will with all sense of honesty carry out my primary functions as aforementioned. I will be committed to my duties, as I believe that anything worth doing; worth doing well.
