THE NEED FOR A MASS COMMUNICATION DEPARTMENT IN UDUS

The department of mass communication helps to prepare students for positions in the mass media industry, governmental agencies and other organizations where journalistic communication skills are crucial. This department helps to provide students with skills in areas such as journalism, broadcasting, films, publishing, advertising and public relations and more.

The aforementioned benefits of having a mass communication department is inexhaustible; yet our dear UDUS lacks this important department that can further bring the institution to the fore front in the country.

Usmanu Danfodiyo university is 43 years old, and one of the best three institution in the northern part of Nigeria. Among these three institutions, UDUS is the only one without this department, but it is the best in terms of campus journalism activities among the three.

We believe the existence of this department will further boast journalism activities on UDUS campus and as a result bring about drastic change in terms of communication in our dear UDUS.

It is pertinent to note that this institution also has no theatre art department, which would have been a possible alternative. Both departments are highly crucial in predisposing students towards acquiring skills for effective communication.

A department of mass communication will extend capacity building in UDUS. There will be glaring reasons for most Danfodites to venture into the journalism profession.

The News Digest press UDUS, urge the school management to look into the possibility of introducing a department for mass communication studies.
