While many students either born with silver spoon in their mouth or not,for healthy purpose subscribe not to the waters from the hostel water-tanks , mayhaps due to its atimes tastefulness and colourless or on the assumption and the belief of ‘prevention is better than cure’, still, quite large numbers of students have no option in whatever ramifications, than to make use of this from-main-reservoir-to-tank waters. In this concluding part by the NEWSDIGEST press, the searchlight is on whether the Students’ Union, and or the Management fulfilled or reneged the promise made in the previous report on those uncovered ‘storex’ (water tanks) in UDUS hostel.
AFTER a report some weeks back by our reporter, revealing how most water – tanks in students’ hostel are left uncovered, a further step taken by the NEWSDIGEST some days ago – shows that the said cobwebbed tanks of healthy-fiends-particles – plus two reservoirs, are now in good condition as promised by the Students’ Union welfare Director.
– Are The Managements Concerned?
When contacted, Dr. Murtala Abubakar ; Deputy Dean, Students’ Affairs Division pinpoint the role of the school management immediately the report reached them, he says : “A report came to me that some of those tanks were without their lids – either stolen or winds blew them away – that they were not covered”
“I personally went there on an evening where I discovered that about three tanks were without their lids” explained, Dr. Murtala evidencing the fact that, the new statusquo of the hostel tanks is facilitated by the management.
“I even climbed on top of them to see the condition. I think only one of them I realized have some of cobwebs and a form of muss” he added.
–Aged Tanks, New In Look
Explaining the steps taken after confirming the conditions of those tanks , Dr. Murtala said the hostel maintenance officer was instructed to get new covers for those ones without lids and assure that all the tanks are washed and in good condition before the school resumes.
“I ordered the maintenance officer to get covers for those three tanks and the one in the female hostel, the then PG blocks – which is also without lid” he says, noting that the responsibility of ensuring sanity of hostel environs – these tanks especially, is saddled on hostel maintenance.
“I think I ordered him to get five lids in addition to the one in Portal’s office as well. Secondly, I also ordered him to make sure that those tanks are washed which they promised to do before resumption” narrated, Dr. Murtala
At the time of concluding this reports, NEWSDIGEST gathered that virtually all the tanks in each blocks at Jibril Aminu Hall have been washed on Monday 18th day of February, 2019 – including two water reservoirs in this same Hall of residence. Similarly, as earlier reported, on those without lid – all the tanks are now covered except two at Block B and D, with promise made to get them covered as well, soon.
