SOZECOM Puts Smile On Jemimah’s Face, Gets Her New Wheelchair

The Sokoto State Zakat and Waqf Endowment Commission (SOZECOM) has on Saturday, 20th of April 2019 presented a new Wheelchair to Miss Jemima Dauda, at the state headquarters of the commission – as a way of aiding the determination to actualise her dream.

The disabled Jemimah Dauda; a 300-level student of Literature In English, Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, whose her disability was never an excuse to hinder her education had for awhile had her education pursuit put on hold due to her faulty wheelchair.

The NEWSDIGEST gathered that the news of Jemimah’s ordeal and the need to get her back on campus, got to the commission (SOZECOM) through the action taken by her classmates – contributing and seeking assistance on her behalf in a bid to get a new wheelchair for her.

The Executive Chairman of the Commission; Muhammad Lawal Maidoki while presenting the wheelchair to Jemimah Dauda, represented by her Class Representative; Sulayman Muzzammil, noted that the gift is presented to her as a way to ease her studies in the University.
He said : “Sokoto State Zakat and Waqf (Endowment) Commission wishes to present this Wheel Chair for you to ease your studies in the University”

He added, wishing her a hitch free in the course of her pursuit for degree certificate.
” The Commission wishes you (Jemimah) successful completion of your degree programme in flying colour”, Added, Mr. Muhammad

Sulayman Muzzammil; the 300-level class representative of Literature In English who received the present on behalf of Jemimah Dauda,  expressed her profound gratitude to the commission, asserting that their kind gesture is unexpected as the class has already contributed enough to purchase her a new wheelchair.

“We’ve contributed enough to get her another wheelchair and even ready to form a tutor group for her” he said, with mixture of happiness and surprise written on his face,he continued; ” Some promised to bring their contribution today and we’ve agreed to get the wheelchair after today’s class. On behalf of Jemimah and the entire class, we’re grateful to the commission and we say ‘Jazakumullah Khair’ ” narrated, Muzzammil.

 Speaking with the NEWSDIGEST after the wheelchair was delivered to her, Jemimah Dauda – overwhelmed by the kind gesture from the commission and that of her course,  expressed deep appreciation, noting that the she never expected the kind of generosity she received.

“I’m extremely happy and using this opportunity to thank you guys and the commission. I appreciate the efforts and the kindness,  I really appreciate” expressed, Jemimah

Jemimah, in her advice for lame like her and other able-bodied students ,urged them never to give up and keep trying in whatever position they find themselves. He however, appeal to the lecturers as well to always be patient with people in such condition as hers.

She added : ” My advice is never for them to give up in any position they find themselves and keep trying. Apart from the financial problems , other challenges is movement from house to campus, associating with people and the kind of venue where I must attend lecture irrespective of my condition – climbing stairs “
