The students of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto have lamented the poor telecommunication service in the main campus.
According to the students, the network connection of MTN, 9mobile, AIRTEL and Glo have been operating poorly in the last few weeks.
Speaking with THE NEWS DIGEST PRESS, Muhammad Adeyemi, a class representative of the 400-level Biochemistry, expressed dissatisfaction with the network providers in the campus.
“It’s frustrating when there is a breakage in communication,” he said. “One is like a ghost.”
He also said the epileptic network services have affected his academic activities as a class representative.
“You are left behind with many activities. As a class representative, you will like to check your class schedules and confirm whether the lecture will hold or not but it will be fruitless even if the lecturer is at your doorstep.”
Kewulere Abdullateef, a 300-level student of Islamic Education faulted all the network providers.
“Almost all the network is aggressive these days,” he said.
“Many people complain that my phone is always switched off, whereas I have full battery.
“In fact, at times if I wanted to call, I have to be walking around like a goat to get in touch with people.”
Muhammad Lawal, a final year student of Education chemistry who operates a cybercafé shop inside the university mini-mart, is displeased with the bad network as it affects the activities in his shop.
“The network is annoying and discouraging,” he said. “Sometimes I will try to make transaction but I will be unable to do it due to bad network.
“Many a time, I will come back home exactly how I went to shop, unless I see photocopy and printing works.
He went to MIS to complain but he was told they are experiencing the same.
Speaking with the NEWS DIESGT PRESS, Muhammad Umar, the Chairman of Students Union Caretaker Committee, said the Committee is aware of the bad condition of the network providers and have started working on it.
“We have communicated with the MTN network provider on this. They said many students in the campus are using 3G network and that is not strong enough,” he said.
