Students of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto have expressed concern over the delay in the opening of the hostel application portal for the 2022/2023 academic session.
The application is mostly available for students at the brink of second semester, in order to have them adequately prepared against next academic session’s accommodation. However, it’s barely three weeks to the commencement of the 2022/2023 academic session and the application is yet to be made available.
Speaking with Ibrahim Robiat, a 400-level student of Science and Vocational Education told the News Digest Press that she has been anxiously waiting for the school management to open the hostel application portal, but it seems the delay will last longer than expected.
“I’ve been expecting the school to open a hostel portal ever since I finished my second semester examinations,” she said.” But up till now, I’ve not heard anything about it.”
Also, in an interview with a 300-level student who pleaded anonymity, said the resumption date is running closer and she has no other means of accommodation apart from the school hostel.
“Resumption date is near and I don’t have any relatives in Sokoto to stay with except for the hostel. School should please and release the hostel application portal for us to apply,” she pleaded.
Meanwhile, speaking with the Deputy Dean of Students Affair, Mallam Tukur Mukhtar told our correspondent that the delay in the opening of the hostel application portal is not unconnected to the order of the federal government directing all universities to shutdown academic activities till 14th March, following the conduct of the 2023 General Election.
He urged the students to exercise patience, adding that after the end of the election saga, the process would be facilitated.
Also, in an interview with the Chairman of the Caretaker Committee for Students’ Union, Mohammed Shamshudeen Umar urged the students to maintain calmness over the situation.
“There’s nothing to worry about. The development doesn’t cause alarm,”he said.
