The News Digest Press has on Sunday, 21 May, organized a training for its members on the Art of News reporting.
The Digest Academy event which was held at A33 lecture hall, was aimed at breeding members into becoming good reporters.
According to Shereefdeen Ahmad, the Editor-In-Chief of the board, no good report can be made in the absence of the 5 W’s.
“These five words: which, who, where, when and why, will help a reporter get all necessary facts needed in the report.
“Knowing how to write a news report is a fundamental knowledge one can have as a journalist. That’s basically the most important piece in journalism,” he said.
The Deputy Editor in chief, Abdulateef Abdullahi also facilitated members on what is expected of them while making reports.
His words: “ In every report, a reporter is expected to always reproduce the exact message of a speaker without omission or addition.”
“The power of inverted commas is very crucial in every report as a reporter is expected to use it while quoting the direct speech of the speaker,” he said.
Facilitating the members, he urged them to always make sure a report is writing excellently before sending it to an editor.
