Recently, we have been dancing to the tunes of a myriad of drums, pianos, and guitars, whether they sound peaceful or violent. In fact, we now prefer crazy sounds to any other thing as we continue chewing ‘wahala, wahala’ from Zazoo’s crooner, Portable. This is tantamount to the belief that the comfort zone is not a zone for comforting again.
Maybe that is the reason a thief was caught in my hostel and his act was justified while the victim was lashed with words, “You are negligent. You don’t test people with your property. ” they said. This reminds me of the situation of this country and the transition. We hope things change positively.
These days, we are not valuing our home any longer, as brain drain is continuing to drain our blood. Who should we blame if not the system? Lending credence to this, A controversial Nigerian YouTuber, Emdee Tiamiyu who had an opportunity to study in the United Kingdom, received a lot of lashes and flaks last week. He claimed in an interview with the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) that Nigerians come into the UK using Education as bait to bring their families to the State.
Well, just like a popular Nigerian slang, “I don’t want peace, I always want problems.” Tiamiyu’s love for violence and uncultured utterances has turned millions of hopes to hopelessness; and by extension, he has betrayed his clans. I will say he deserved more than every backlash he’s got. Maybe his intention wasn’t to block the route but that is the result. We should be watchful of our words.
The restrictions imply that citizens with similar dreams are being shattered. In a country of over 150 million population not as developed as South Africa let alone Great Britain, there is a high tendency that its citizenry will suffer from unemployment. Nigerians have been striving to change their home indigency by seeking greener pastures in other foreign countries. However, his polluted mouth has blocked the route for his countrymen.
I couldn’t bury this pain but remember one of my brothers who wanted to leave Nigeria for a Master’s after medical school. No, Idan Tiamiyu has caused hullabaloo. One of Machiavelli’s rules says, “Your country first even before morals.” Is his apology enough to remedy the survival and dreams of millions he slammed, shot, and gunned down? In between hatred and love, must we always run away from our homes?
Inside UDUS: Idan Fateemah
Just earlier this week, one Fateemah Ibrahim caused a myriad of reactions among the students of Usman Danfodio University Sokoto as she went on a not-too-befitting trip; leaving everyone in awe without waving goodbye even to her best friend while leaving the hostel for a couple of days to a place but unknown. For days, she didn’t return!
Not until the moment her missing Flyer was trending, no one heard anything from her. However, the moment she saw herself on people’s status as missing, she posted on her status “My pictures everywhere ”. Something which went viral and made her a household name on the soil of UDUS.
Students contended she broke the record of the first lady going away and not returning till she was declared missing. However, the question that still bothers minds is where would she have been.
