Before Sulaiman Sanusi could take his bath, the 100-level student and occupant of Jubril Aminu Hall of Residence had to trek to Bakassi hostel, about two kilometers away from his hostel.
He could still not decipher the cause of the intermittent power outage at Jubril Aminu hostel which has frustrated his academic life, leaving him on a brink of despair.
“I couldn’t charge my phone, I had to go all the way to Bakassi_a hostel so far from ours before I could charge and bathe,” Sulaiman said.
“Whatever may be the cause ought to have been communicated to us by the school management.”
Sulaiman is not into this alone. Almost all the student occupants of various blocks in Jubril Aminu hostel have similar tales to tell.
The News Digest Press gathered that the on-and-off power supply in the hostel started on Saturday, 10th June and still continues. The greatest dismay of it all is that without power supply, automatically there won’t be water supply at the hostel.
Meanwhile, while speaking with one of the hostel’s maintenance staff, Mallam Naisru Umar told the News Digest Press that the reason for the intermittent power supply to the hostel is still hovering in the air.
“Currently, there’s electricity in the school. But we honestly don’t have lights at the hostel. Maybe, something happened but I don’t know the real cause,” he said.
More Students Narrate Ordeal
Yahya Ibrahim has spent days without pouring a drop of water on his body. In fact, according to him, he used to buy pure water in order to soak a cup of Garri.
“It’s disheartening, thank God I bathed in the reservoir’s water before it was fetched up. Since Saturday, I’m just using my last chance to buy sachet water to drink Garri. I have to beg for one today before I could take my student power, we get no water to urinate, talk less of cooking,” Yahaya Ibrahim lamented.
Just like Yahya Ibrahim, Adam Sultan is another resident of Jubril Aminu hostel who has gotten his own fair share of the power outage.
“We don’t have light throughout today, the last time I charged my phone was yesterday. I only have my phone charged whenever I go to school”.
He also recounted how shortage of water forced students to cook with sachet water, especially before Tuesday. He said students from other halls come to block ‘H’ to get water, if available.
