That word ‘Danfodite’ is an epithet name for Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto’s student.

However, the colloquial word ‘jambito’ is a welcoming rhyme for newly admitted students. A nickname that points new students out in the crowd. Perhaps, because of their weird questions and behavior they always display on campus.

I’m Durojaye Bashirat Muatapha, a 200 Level student from Mass Communications department, UDUS.

My curiosity in exploring and tasting other states since childhood surge my readiness for choosing far away institutions. I was excited when my curiosity became actualised to study Mass Communication at UDUS, a relatively Hausa dominated state. The fright of insecurity threatened my parents but with their fate kept alive, my safety was granted but not without a story to tell.

The first challenge experienced was the barrier in language, communicating with another language proved difficult and not all comprehend the lingual franca.

The second which kicked me striving is the unproud grades, unlike my secondary level where ‘A’ or ‘B’ soared in all my results but Danfodiyo made me realize that brilliance meant absolute commitment to reading. It is an attestation to the motto ‘ IQRA’ in Arabic terminology to ‘Read’. Read Read and Read only, to excel you read. No one told me to shun Morocco for Boko, only the wise will comprehend.

Yes! I have made a choice for myself. Because I realized the higher the Morocco, the lower my CGPA smiles.

As a Jambito, another thing I learnt was that living in a room with different people has accrued what accommodating people’s attitude, then I was convinced to succumb to the proverb “no place like home”.
