After Payment of School Fees, UDUS Management Closes Portal for Course Registration, Students Bemoan

The management of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto has on Friday, 16th June closed the portal for the registration exercise of the returning students.

This, however, came after the third time extension of the registration deadline.

Recall that the management noted in the circular released sequel to the deadline of the registration of the returning students, which reads in part: “Any student who could not register on or before Friday, 16th June 2023 would have to defer the session.”

The statement above has mounted fear in the minds of the students who have already paid their school fees, but are unable to register their course registration.

According to a 300-level student, Yusuf Hammad (not his real name) of the Faculty of Education and Extension Services, narrated that he had a missing grade in his 200-level result, Second Semester, which was yet to be rectified, and that had been the reason why he had not registered his course registration.

“I was unable to register for my course registration because I have a missing grade in my result and it was yet to be rectified despite I reporting to the faculty examination officers and the lecturer taking the course,” he said.

Hammad further said that he and others were only opportune to make a complaint once a week in their department.

“We only have the privilege once in a week to complain and if they can’t attend to us that day, we are going to wait till the following week,” he exclaimed.

Just like Hammad, Garba Monday, a 300-level student who struggled to pay his school fees, not knowing that the registration of course would be closed along with the school fees said:

“I hustle to pay for my school fees, house rent, and other school expenses. I did not know that the registration of course would also be closed alongside the school fees. The management should consider the welfare of the students in her institution and reopen the registration portal.”

While speaking with the Dean of Students Affairs, Professor Umar Aliyu on the closure of the registration course, told the News Digest Press that the decision lies with the school management, as he did not know if they would reopen the portal or not.

“I did not know whether the management would extend the period or not,” he said.
