The Faculty of Social Sciences (FOSSA) has eliminated the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences (FOPS) after claiming a 4-2 victory in a penalty shoot-out in the ongoing Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto’s inter-faculty football competition at the School Stadium on Friday.
The both sides were held to a 1-1 draw in the match before the boys from UDUTH had their two penalties saved in the shoot-out to go down on 4-2 lost.
FOSSA broke the deadlock from a spot-kick at the brink of the first half after squandering a basket of chances before the break.
Team faculty of Social Sciences were cruising on the 1-0 victory before they were made to pay a heavy price after team Pharmacy brought the game back to level with a header and force it to a penalty shoot-out.
Pharmaceutical Warriors decided their fate after their first two penalties hit the same angle of the bar, giving the opponents two goals lead.
FOSSA men target all the shots into the net, winning 4-2 in the penalty shoot-out and through to the next stage of the competition.
“Actually it’s a big challenge. I think we have a good team though not that we’re better than them but we thank God to win the match”, Abdulrasheed Awwal from Economics Department, Faculty of Social Sciences told the News Digest Press after the match.
Musa Ibrahim, a Sport Director of the Students Union told the winning team that he has a discretionary power to oppose any kind of misconduct in the course of the tournament. He further assured a just treatment toward every team.
“I’m the Sport Director, I have the right to remove players. I don’t want players who are not registered, everyone is expected to respect themselves. As regards to the teams, I’m going to do justice to everyone.”
