The News Digest Press, one of the leading media outlets in Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, has set to organize a marathon writing contest for its members.
The contest, sponsored by the immediate past editor-in-chief of the press board, Abdullah Tijani, is targeted at igniting the writing spirit of the members during the first semester break.
According to a statement released by the outlet and signed by its editor-in-chief, Shereefdeen Ahmad, the contest will run from 28th August to 30th September, 2023.
The statement stated that the first category of the contest is open to all members, and the winner will receive a cash prize of N10,000 plus a certificate, while the first runner-up takes N5,000 with also a certificate.
For the second category, which is open to only the newly admitted members, the winner will take a cash prize of N5,000 with a certificate.
Also, each of the top finalists in both categories will receive certificates.
Meanwhile, to make it to the shortlist for the first category, the person must have produced at least two feature stories, three news reports and other articles before the 30th of September.
While for the second category, the member must have produced at least a feature, two news reports and other articles.
“The aim of this contest is not to give money. In fact, the prizes are ‘two days’ peanuts change’ for some people here. But our goal is to see everybody motivated to write well consistently,” part of the statement reads.
