The Kano State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has on Wednesday, 20th September, 2023 dismissed Abba Yusuf of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and declared Nasiru Ganuwa of All Progressive Congress (APC) as the valid winner of March 18 Kano State Governorship election.
Recall that Ganuwa congratulated Yusuf, following the declaration of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the winner of Kano state gubernatorial election after he polled 1,019,602 votes to defeat his nearest opposition from APC who scored 890,705 with a total figure of 128,897. However, APC went ahead to file a petition before the Kano state election tribunal to challenge this decision.
The ruling that was delivered by a three-men panel led by Justice Oluyemi Akintan-Osadebay sitting at Kano State High Court was transmitted via Zoom after two weeks when the both parties closed their case on 21st August, 2023.
While delivering its judgment, the panel deducted and declared 165,663 votes of NNPP as invalid, stating that they were not duly signed and stamped. Thus, Nasiru Ganuwa’s 890,705 figures out numbered the valid 637,061 votes of Abba Yusuf.
In addition, the tribunal ordered INEC to withdraw NNP’s uf certificate of return and directed the same to be issued to Ganuwa of APC.
