A 400-level student of Economics department at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, Yusuf Mahmud, has been appointed as the Research Assistant and Analyst in the Secretariat of the Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee.
This was contained in a letter signed by the Research Analyst and E.A to the Chairman of the committee, Edwine Anaele.
According to the letter, Mahmud is expected to attend an induction session on Monday, 9th October 2023.
Also, the letter stated that his role is remuneration free. However, the committee will shoulder the cost of his task assigned to him.
“The duration of your participation with the Secretariat will be 3 months and you are free to choose which slot from October to December 2023; January to March 2024 and April to June 2024 would suit you best on a first come first served basis. The form to indicate your preference will be shared after the induction,” the letter reads in part.
“After 1 month of working with the Secretariat there will be a test and successful candidates will be picked as student ambassadors of the committee.”
“At the end of your 3 months attachment, the overall top 10 candidates will be given another opportunity to work with the Secretariat on the last phase of the committee’s work.”
Speaking with The News Digest Press, Yusuf Mahmud, an indigene of Agaie Local Government Area of Niger State, expressed his gratitude, adding that his engagement in extracurricular activities contributed to the appointment.
“Well, I was quite pleased when I received the letter of appointment, and I attribute this to the will of Allah. I participate in extracurricular activities, such as STS, which are based on selflessness.”
“Often, people ask me what I gain from such services. However, the value of selfless services goes beyond monetary benefits; it’s all about service to humanity.”
Mahmud stated that: “I was appointed as a research assistant and analyst. However, my specific duties will be communicated to me during the induction session on the 9th of this month. Sincerely, it was a privilege.”
“During the virtual assessment, I was tasked with several assignments, including writing a memo, composing an essay of no more than 50 words, and suggesting measures to cushion the effect of subsidy removal.”
Mahmud believes that engaging and connecting with people helps fortune to grow, and being a Director of finance in the Students’ Tax Society (STS) fosters the opportunity.
“It’s essentially to involve a wide range of people, including Students’ Tax Societies or Clubs, in fiscal policy and tax reforms. Any logical or empirical contributions will also be incorporated into the reforms. As a Director of finance in STS, I have attended several organizations with my STS members like; the Sokoto State Inland Revenue Service.”
