The Caliphate Bookstore(CB) at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto has on Monday, 16th October commenced the Caliphate moot court competition.
The competition, The News Digest Press gathered, is aimed strengthening the capacity of the students in the practical aspect of the law.
According to a statement released by the judiciary of the Law Students Society(LSS), 18 teams—comprising of four students each—were set to participate in the competition after obtaining a registration form for N1,000.
The moot court event began with the African Giant Team facing the Shamco & Co on Monday at the LSS court in Faculty of Law.
Speaking with The News Digest Press, Ibrahim Dasuki Jumat, a 200-level law student and the lead counsel of the African Giant Team, expressed his satisfaction over the ongoing competition.
“Mooting is a nice event, I love to be participating in it because it is fantastic,”he said.
Muhammad Shamsudeen, a 200-level student and the lead counsel for Shamco & Co on his own part said: It is an opportunity for every law student to improve their advocacy skills. And prepare the students for the real practice in the real world.”
“Kudos to the members of the judiciary for their relentless effort for holding this competition,” he added.
In am interview with Abubakar Suleiman, another participant of the competition said:
“Well, the competition is interesting and also educational. it builds student’s exposure to advocate and be able to talk in public without fright.”
