It is no longer news that the phenomenon of insecurities has become a Nigerian pandemic. In order to arrest the unhappy situation with a befitting solution, experts and security personnels opinions have been sought.
As part of her responsibility to protect the lives and properties of Nigerians, several measures have been taken by the governments to end the virus. However, like they say, problems don’t end in this blessed country. Each and every time a section of the country combating insecurities has been subdued, it’s become an ugly custom to see another sect break out. Unending.
Ensuring a secured life and properties in our environment of learning is very essential that all hands must be on a desk between at alert, merging with our campus security’s personnel in the fight against insecurities. In fact, students themselves ought to watch out as campuses might not be a safe haven again like it used to be. Unpromised.
Up to one month ago, countable numbers of students of the Federal University Gusau, Zamfara, were kidnapped by bandits, only a few of them being rescued by the security operatives in the state thereafter.
Similarly, miscreants went to Katsina state Federal University to kidnap five female students in the early hours of that morning, and later proceeded to Nasarawa state university to perpetuate their mischievous act.
Billions of naira was added to our budget for the support and supply of arms and ammunition to combat crime in the country. Also, some Governors have waged war against the problem as Governor Umar Radda launched a security outfit in his state. Many Northwestern state governors are also willing to do the same. But can the government do it alone?
I don’t think the provision of adequate security should be a work which the government should cater for alone, we should as well give what is expected of us, the security situation should be everyone’s business. Once you see something, you must say something. Besides, the security of our lives is mostly paramount, because government officials barely work without securities. Peace.
