This is a reflection on the time when I was seeking admission into a tertiary institution. My friends and I sat for the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) on the 9th of March, 2020. Additionally, we took our West African Examination Council (WAEC) and National Examination Council (NECO) exams.
Weeks later, the results were released. My friends were anxious to check their results, but I remained calm. Upon hearing the news, I first prayed to the Almighty, then subscribed to my phone to check my results. AlhamduliLlah, I had excellent results. Overjoyed, I shared the news with my friends who were delighted for me. They promptly shared their login details, so I could check their results as well, which I gladly did.
Wonderfully, all of us had good grades. Zainab scored 216, I scored 230, and Kareemah got 250 out of 400 points. We proceeded with our admission process, which involved online screening and uploading our results, among other requirements.
However, something didn’t feel right. While my friends began to see their admission offers on the university portals, mine continued to display “admission in progress.” I started feeling discouraged, but my friends assured me that my time would come.
Time passed, and my friends left for their respective schools, leaving me at home. My mom encouraged me to prepare for another exam the following year, but I held onto hope for a miracle.
One Thursday night, I woke up to pray as usual. After the prayer, as I was about to go back to sleep, the idea of checking my admission portal suddenly crossed my mind. At first, I hesitated, but eventually, I couldn’t resist the urge to check. To my astonishment, I shouted at the top of my voice. I rushed to my brother’s room and asked him to confirm what I was seeing on my portal. With a mixture of shock and joy, he read aloud, “You have been offered admission for B.A. Linguistics into Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto.” “Okikiola! This is a miracle,” he added.
Moral Lesson: Believe in your efforts, but also remember to pray. Having alternatives is wise, and it’s perfectly fine to do your best and entrust the rest to God.
It’s amazing
