The Faculty of Law in Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto has emerged winner of the inter-faculty oratory contest organized by Zero Tolerance for Corruption( ZTC), campus branch of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission(EFCC).
The contest, themed ‘Embezzlement and Misappropriation of Public Funds Directly Led to Inefficiency of Public Service Delivery,’ was held on Sunday, 22nd October at the A10 Lecture Hall.
Sub-themed ‘is corruption primarily a result of individual greed or systematic failure, should corruption be considered a criminal offense with strict penalties,” the event was aimed at streamlining the causes of the failure of public service in Nigeria.
Nine of faculties in the university participated in the contest. They are: Social Sciences, Veterinary Medicine, Pharmacy, Law, Agriculture, Education, Arabic and Humanities.
Following a fierce oratory expository battle, faculty of law eventually emerged as winner.
In an interview with the representative of the faculty of law, Olarewaju Faruq, a 300-level student told The News Digest Press that his performance has printed a precedent in the faculty.
“Words cannot express how happy I am,especially for breaking that record.”
“I hope I have laid a path which other students in the Faculty should follow,” he added
Meanwhile, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Faculty of Social Sciences emerged first runner-up and second runner-up respectively.
