The Linguistics Students’ Association (LINSA), Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS) chapter is set to hold its 1st public lecture, cultural day and launch of a website for the 2022/2023 academic session.
According to a flier released, the event will be held on 15th November, 2023 at PTF hall by 10:00am.
Focusing on two topics, professor Ahmad H. Amfani and Mallam Hudu Isah Kebbi will serve as the discussant of the day where they will talk on ‘The Role of Language in Shaping Culture and Identity and Sign Languages and Deaf Culture: A Linguistics Perspective.’
The Chief host of the programmes is Professor Sheu Sidi, the Dean Faculty of Art. The Linguistics Head of Department (HOD), Professor Muhammad .A. Aliero Hudu Isah Kebbi, as the host while Mallam Isah Muhammad, serves as the co-host of the event.
Professor Lawal Suleiman Bilbis, the Vice Chancellor of UDUS will be present as the special guest of honour, and the Director for UDUS Academic Planning, Dr K.G Muhammad as the Chairman of the occasion.
Speaking with The News Digest Press, the President for LINSA, Akande Korede Johnson, asserted that the rationale behind the launching of the website is to ease the affairs of the students of the department to have access to e-books related to their field, and for linguistics lecturer to publish their works on the site so that the students will benefit from it.
“The importance of it is to lessen the affairs of the lecturers and be giving reference to their latest papers published on the site which can be done by scanning and posting it online for easy access to students,” he said.
Speaking further, Akande added that the website will not only accommodate e-books alone, “the latest news about the department or any event will also be published on this website and other entertainment to give pleasure to the students.”
“We invent this to make people know that there is a difference between LINSA and other departmental associations that we are beyond an ordinary grammarian.”
