A 300-level student of Primary Education, Faculty of Education and Extension Services (FEES), Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS), Isiaq Ibrahim has bagged The News Digest male category of campus Journalist for the year 2022/2023 academic session.
This announcement was made during the Digest Festival, held on Sunday, 5th November, at UDUS Multi-purpose Hall 2 (MH2), main campus.
The News Digest Press is a campus press outlet at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto—covering a wide range of issues both on and off campus.
Notably, on campus, Digest has won the Press Board of the Year award three consecutive times, in 2018, 2019, and 2020.
At the national level, the press board achieved recognition by winning the Pen Club of the Year award in the 2019 annual campus journalism award organized by the Youth Digest in Abuja.
The Campus Journalist of the Year award is a prize for the outstanding male and female campus journalists in each academic session.
In an interview with Isiaq Ibrahim, he expressed that he had been eyeing to clinch the feat of the Campus Journalist of the Year since the day he stepped foot in The News Digest Press.
“I can remember in the 2021/2022 academic session when I emerged as the News Digest Rookie Journalist of the Year, since then I have been envisaging the 2022/2023 Campus Journalist of the Year. Alhamdulilahi, here I am today. I clinched one of the feats I desire,” he said.
Speaking further, Ibraheem asserted that he gives thanks to Almighty Allah for the great opportunity he has bestowed upon him, and the Editor-in-Chief of the press board, Shereefdeen Ahmad for his support and guidance.
“I appreciated the efforts of other editors for not getting tireless in attending to my work, it is a great honor to be part of News Digest members.”
