It is so unwise that Nigerians celebrate immorality; but give low recognition of excellence to moral conduct and educational values! This societal incongruity is glaring upon observation.
In this nation, a disconcerting trend emerges where a person is awarded for getting involved in the apex of immorality. By exposing yourself shamelessly on the Big Brother Naija show, you stand a chance to take home millions. But the best common law graduating student of the University of Ilorin is getting just 10k. Life is very unfair.
A proper perusal of our society revealed that we’ve found ourselves in a society where humanity has less face value. Morals and ethics have degraded to the extent of immorality becoming style. Beyond words, there is more than enough money in this country. Maybe the country is not rich. But it is evident that we have been crediting unworthy things.
Things take a bad turn in this country! We have been lied to. I see many people who made it with nothing related to academics. Reality becomes a bleach of all we were promised for being obedient.
We all crave to win within the rules, then the bad boys start to win. Our people now value madness over intellect. Promiscuity gets awarded, while being pious only earns you mockery. This is the community we live in. Where all isn’t well. But no problem anyway.
In a nutshell, society now gives credence to the new normal to the ancient moral etiquette which has from time immemorial been the right way of doing things. The hypocrisy in Nigeria has made hard work look like a sheer waste of time. And made people conceive of the evolving obscenity as the right way.
