Abdulkabir Olakunde, the renowned rapper Kabex, unfolds a painful chapter from his past, through the powerful medium of music, shedding light on an unfortunate incident that led him to a hospital. In sharing his story, Kabex reveals a common plight where individuals bear the consequences of others’ wrongdoing.
Had Kabex foreseen his destiny, he could not have submitted to his mother’s advice, urging him to pursue a trade as an artisan, learning mechanics at Baba Dudu’s shop. The fateful day he joined work marked the beginning of his ordeal, facing violence due to the actions of a deceitful senior colleague at Jankara.
Abdulkabir had a bitter-sweet reaction when his mother conveyed her plan to him. He was gripped with a cloud-nine mood upon his arrival at Baba Dudu’s shop as the thought of becoming an “Eleniyan”(the master of men) surfaced throughout his mind.
“To cut it short, that is how I became an apprentice for Baba Dudu, thinking about how to become a big boy in the neighborhood because money matters most, that is what I love most,” he said.
However, Kabex’s dreams were shattered when a senior apprentice approached him, seeking collaboration in stealing from their boss. Despite Kabiru’s refusal and warnings, the theft occurred and the blame was shifted onto him.
Kabex could have avoided the consequences had he informed Oga Dudu about the nefarious plan.
Kabex ended his music by saying “If I step on Jankara, I can bewitch myself.” Although the statement is a hyperbolic expression. However, it depicted how Kabex disliked Jankara as a result of the incident that happened to him years ago.
Lesson: The narrative underscores the criminality of staying silent when aware of an impending crime, emphasizing the importance of speaking up to prevent unjust consequences.
