Muhammadjawad Oloruntoyin, a 300-level law student at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, has clinched the first position at the orientation and oratory contest organized by the National Association of Kwara State Students, NAKKS.
Oloruntoyin’s Victory was confirmed and announced after the oratory contest, which was held in the A10 lecture hall on April 14, 2024.
The contest, which was done in phases, embodied different mind-blowing and rife topics, with the first one being “Gender Equality: Reasons Why Females Should Also Be Involved in Student Politics, Balancing the Gender, and the second one, “The Benefits of Sex Education in Society,” while the last one, “Effects of Western Education on African Culture,” being heavily contested by the participants.
Muhammadjawad, while speaking with The News Digest Press, expressed his gratitude to Almighty Allah.”I’m very happy and relieved,” he said.
According to him, the most rewarding part of participating in the contest is the pride of his fellow Ilorin people and his recognition.
Speaking further about the challenges he faced while preparing for the contest, he said, “My main challenge was that it was my first time participating in an oratory contest, and I don’t know more about public speaking, but I asked for guidance from some experiment speakers, and I watched some videos from YouTube.”
” It took me more than an hour to prepare for each topic. I didn’t follow a specific writing process at all. After my research, I’ll start my introduction with a story before introducing myself and then finally moving to the real matter before my introduction
Advising the fellows interested students in public speaking, Muhammadjawad Jawad advised them to always be confident about themselves and not have doubts about themselves.
” Do not cram but understand your topic. If you cram and forget your topic, it might affect you on the stage, but if you understand and forget your points, you’ll quickly be able to come up with something.”
Commenting on the need for good guardianship, he acknowledged the role of the UDUS debate vice president, Olarewaju Umar Faruq, and Muhammadbaqir Oloruntoyin.
” Olarewaju Umar Faruq, and Muhammadbaqir Oloruntoyin give me some guidance and tips on how to go about preparing and giving my speech, “ he added.
