The Fire Safety Club, Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, has on Sunday, 27th April, 2024 held its annual congress at the university main campus convocation theatre.
The congress themed “fire safety sensitization and launching of fire safety and kits” marks their third meeting for the first semester, 2023/2024 academic sessions.
Abdulrazaq Abdulrahman Adebanjo, doubled as the President and Controller General of the Club emphasized the need to work with other firefighters and the school management in order to mitigate fire incidents on campus.
Quoting the words of former President of South Africa, Nelson Mandela, Adebanjo said: “Education is the most potent tool that transforms human life.”
Speaking further, he maintained that the association aims at educating students about fire prevention and how to act when affected by it.
Also, the General Secretary of the club, Danliti Idris, explained that fire risks on campus are a serious concern, and there are several steps that can be taken to mitigate them.
“Faulty or overloaded electrical circuits can cause fires, especially in older buildings in the halls of residence. Also, cooking in residence halls or student housing can lead to kitchen fires if proper precautions are not taken,” he said.
