Following the directive given by the General Studies (GST) Division over the suspension of Continuous Assessment (CA) for the first semester, 2023/2024 academic session, students have voiced their concerns over the decision.
Recall that on Tuesday, 23rd April, the Division of GST released a time-table for the first semester, 2023/2024 academic session Continuous Assessment which is slated to commence on Monday, 29th April. This has left the students scrambling to adjust their learning plans.
At UDUS, GST is a mandatory course for students across three levels: 100, 200, and 300. As part of the examination process, students are required to take Continuous Assessment (C.A.), which constitutes 40 marks out of the total 100 marks allocated for their academic assessment.
Speaking with The News Digest Press, a 300-Level student of Literature, Mubarak Olarewaju who resumed a few weeks ago on campus expressed that he felt joyous over the suspension which will pathway time for him to study more harder before the new date will be communicated.
“If they did not suspend this C.A, I would manage myself to read in order to meet up with the handout, but I may not get my desired score” he said.
Another student, Akeem Abiodun, a 200-level Law student, along with several other students beside him were demotivated upon the release of the circular for suspension.
“ Many of us closed our handouts and left the class premises.”
In an interview with Ganiyah Shua’ib, a 300-level student of microbiology, he said this suspension of the C.A might also lead to the extension of examination time.
“If that should be the case, the end of the semester might be close to the Sallah time, which may deprive me to go home for Eid celebration with my family,” she said.
According to Sufyan Dahiru, a 300-Level student of Law, he noted that the suspension of this C.A will lessen the stress of those that are not staying within the campus.
“Scarcity of fuel is lingering in the country, if this C.A commenced on 29th April as it stated, many students may miss the stipulated time,” Sufyan said.
Like Akeem, Daromosu Raheemat Opeyemi, a 300-level student of Agriculture, stated that she was among the first to discontinue GST when the circular reached her.
