The Liberty & Co. Law Firm at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto has outshined eleven other teams at the Caliphate Law Clinic Client Interviews and Counseling Skills Competition.
Held at the law faculty moot court on the 11th of May, each team consisted of two participants, making for an intense and competitive environment.
In the preliminary round, the journey to victory saw the initial pool of twelve teams reduced to six after the elimination of Lofty Height Law Firm, Empire Law Firm, M.A Mahmud Law Firm, Gani Fawehinmi Law Firm, Lord Denning Law Firm, and H&R Law Firm in the preliminary rounds.
Advancing to the next stage, four more teams—Pinnacle Law Firm, Ayman & Haq Law Firm, African Law Firm, and Justice Chamber and Co.—faced defeat, leaving only two contenders for the final showdown.
In the final stage, Liberty & Co won the client interview with a total score of 287, surpassing M&M Law Firm with total score of 283.
In an interview with 500 level law student Shehu Samsudeen Ahmed, the Senior Advocate of the Society and President of the Law Clinic, he emphasized the importance of such competitions in preparing law students for the rigors of legal practice.
“This competition is vital for developing critical skills among law students. It simulates real-world scenarios, fosters critical thinking, builds confidence, and encourages empathy and understanding, all essential traits for future legal practitioners,” stated Ahmed.
Abdulkareem Mubarak, a 400-level law student and member of the winning team from Liberty & Co, extended his congratulations to all participating teams for their commendable efforts throughout the competition.
Acknowledging the challenges of competing against eleven other teams, he said, “I acknowledge the effort of all other teams because it’s not an easy task to compete in a competition with twelve participants and emerge as the first position.”
He further added, “I would definitely appreciate the effort of my teammate, Issa Islamiyat; she was truly astonishing. I believe it was our exceptional teamwork that made this victory possible.”
