The former Editor-in-Chief of the News Digest Press and 400-level Law student has emerged as the new President of the National Association of Campus Journalists, Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto.
The announcement was made on Sunday, 27th of October, 2024, after a thorough screening and interview process by the NACJ Transition Committee.
Shereefdeen Ahmad, who until his elevation as the President of the NACJ, has been awarded the Digest Journalist of the Year, in 2021 and 2022. In 2021, he also won the NACJ Sports Writer of the Year award.
In 2023, Shereefdeen received the prestigious JOA Journalist of the Year Award, considered the most competitive student journalism award at Danfodiyo University. That same year, he also emerged as the Feature Writer of the Year.
At the national level, he was a finalist in two categories—Investigative Reporter and Sports Writer—at the 2022 Campus Journalism Awards (CJA) organized by Youth Digest in Abuja.
His works have been published in various national dailies and magazines, including The Nation, Daily Trust, International Centre for Investigative Reporting (ICIR), The Cable, HumAngle, Tribune, Ripples Nigeria, and The Liberalist, among others.
In an Interview with the news Digest Press, the Shereefdeen expressed his deepest gratitude and feelings after being announced as the President of the most intellectual club in UDUS.
“I really feel good being appointed as the NACJ President,” he said. “It comes as a big feelings bearing in mind that NACJ is arguably the most intellectual club in Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto.”
Shereefdeen also added that he is happy and felt challenged that he has a hurdle to climb, being a president is not an easy task as a lot of things and standard will be expected, he hopes that he will be able to deliver.
Shereefdeen while highlighting the benefits members of NACJ would see during his administration, he said.
“I would say that my administration will continue to build on a legacy NACJ is known for, to be specific, we will ensure that we engage in rigorous capacity building, exposure of journalists and building a reputable footprint among all the members of NACJ.
“We will also ensure that people get the rightful training and show them the way on how to navigate through campus journalism, including writing for mainstream media platforms, how to monetize their writing skills, highly recognition and let members see that they can make a career for themselves in journalism,” he concluded.
