UNIZIK Expels Student for Assaulting Lecturer

The Management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) has expelled a 300-Level female student, Goddy-Mbakwe Chimamaka Precious from the Department of History and International Studies, following the allegation of her assault on a lecturer.

In a letter released by the University Management on Friday, 14th of February, 2025, and signed by the University registrar, Victor Modebelu, the University Students Disciplinary Committee said that Precious Mbakwe was found guilty of assault against a lecturer, Chukwudi Okoye.

According to the letter, titled, “Expulsion from Nnamdi Azikiwe University,” it pointed out that her action was a gross misconduct which equally violated Students Disciplinary Regulations (SDR), particularly regulation (4) of the SDR.

Furthermore, the letter stated in clear terms that her expulsion is effective immediately.
“Consequently, the acting Vice-Chancellor has, on behalf of the University Senate, approved the committee’s recommendation that you be expelled and you are hereby expelled from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka,” the letter reads in part,” the letter read in part.

The university, therefore, asked the student to vacate the university vicinity in no time and return any university property in her possession.

On Tuesday 11th of February, 2025, there was a video went viral on the internet where a student was captured engaging in a scuffle with one of the lecturers in the Theater Art Department who was identified as Chukwudi Okoye.

In that video, the student was making a video of herself while the lecturer interrupted at the passing from the halfway behind and tapped the student to “excuse her” to pass.

The situation, which later turned on a dark moment over itself, revealed that students assaulted the lecturer by landing him a slap, running out the collar of his shirt and biting him so hard.

The videos, however, show that Mr Okoye remained in his calm demeanour without fighting back despite the student dragging him and tearing his shirt. This incident stirred flurry reactions across social media, which prompted the school management to conduct investigation into the matter’s underlying cause.
