Some local chapters’ presidents under the National Association of Kwara State Students, Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto (NAKSS-UDUS), have dismissed the claim that they did not submit the list of student beneficiaries to Comrade Abdulrafiu Abdullah Opeyemi, the Students’ Union Ex-Caretaker Committee Public Relations Officer.
Following DIGEST PRESS’ earlier report published on October 7, 2025, Opeyemi had stated that the Scholarship Initiative promise was not fulfilled because the list of student beneficiaries was not sent by Comrade Zakari Yari. This claim was made during an interview with the press outlet.
However, while it was true that Comrade Zakari Yari did not personally send the list to Opeyemi, DIGEST PRESS has obtained a chat from the former NAKSS President revealing that the list of some of the student beneficiaries had indeed been sent to Opeyemi by some of the local chapters’ presidents.
As shown in the chat, Opeyemi acknowledged receiving some names and assured that the account details provided would be credited by the month-end.
“It was only Offa, Erinle and Kwara North that submitted las week,” he stated in the chat. “And I’ll roll out to them by ending. The account details they sent to me would be credited.”
Attached to this report are screenshots of the chats obtained from both the former NAKSS President and the local chapter leaders who directly reached out to Opeyemi regarding the scholarship, serving as evidence of their claims.
In an exclusive interview with DIGEST PRESS, the Local Chapters’ Presidents strongly refuted Opeyemi’s claims, insisting that they had directly submitted the lists to him but he failed to act even after several reminders. According to them, Opeyemi acknowledged receiving their lists but did nothing about them to date.
For Comrade Muhammad Abubakari, a 500-level student from the Faculty of Engineering and a representative from the Edu-Patigi Emirate, he categorically stated that despite sending the names of student beneficiaries from their association, nothing was done to that effect.
“Edu-Patigi Emirate Student Association submitted names of all the categories of the scholarship slated. In fact, the first letter containing full details of the scholarship was sent to him on 21st of April to which I received an acknowledgement from him and also reminded him in the month ending about it but he has failed to fulfill what he promised,” Comrade Abubakari disclosed.
He further revealed that the scholarship pledge made those beneficiaries from their association pin their hopes with reassurance that they would receive financial assistance. However, he said, “the hope was dashed out as the student anticipated for long and couldn’t get it, until they stopped hoping for it and started looking for alternatives. Very unfortunate!”
According to the chat, Edu-Patigi submitted the details of Mohammed Abdullah Kudu, a student from the Faculty of chemical and life sciences.
While speaking with the former president of Offa, Comrade Jimoh Sherifdeen also disputed the claim that the list of student beneficiaries was not submitted. He expressed deep concern, stating that Comrade Abdullah Opeyemi could not fulfill his promise despite their compliance with his request.
In his words: “there’s no way you will promise someone money, then you should know the kind of expectation that such person will have. For transparency, I send the association our conversations screenshot at times to let them know that it’s not our fault, but from the person who pledged to render financial assistance to them.”
In the chat obtained by Digest Press, Offa submitted the details of Jimoh Halimat Adebukola from the Faculty of Education and Abdulmalik Aishat Adenike from the same faculty as beneficiaries.
As of the time of filing this report, Mohammed Abdullah Kudu, Jimoh Halimat Adebukola, and Abdulmalik Aishat Adenike have yet to receive their payments, despite confirmation of the receipt of their information, including bank details.
All attempts to speak with the Erinle former president regarding this issue proved abortive. He stated that he would only grant an interview after four days. Meanwhile, Digest confirmed that Kaima had not submitted the list of their beneficiaries to Comrade Opeyemi.
Recall that Comrade Abdullah Opeyemi threatened DIGEST PRESS with a lawsuit following the earlier report exposing his failure to deliver the Scholarship Initiative pledge.
While claiming that it was a libellous publication against his reputation, he retorted thus: “My lawyer will reach out to you soon inshallah. This is a defamation of character and I won’t take it easy with whoever wants to tarnish my image. I have a lot of evidence to back my claims.”
