Fact-Check: Ikorodu Boys Set Naira Marley’s House on Fire Following Mohbad’s Death?

The claim

CLAIM: NairaMarley, Azeez Fashola house was said to be attacked and set on fire by  Ikorodu boys following Mohbad’s death.

The death of the street stardom musician,  Ilerioluwa Adedimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad which was confirmed by his manager on Tuesday September 12, 2023 has generated a lot of misinformation and disinformation online .

 Many media, blogs and platforms have posted several claims related to his death ranging from — died due to ear infectionNaira MarleySam Larrywife and beaten by juju ring. 

Before his departure, Aloba, who died at 27 was a Nigerian rapper, singer and songwriter from Lagos. He was signed to Marlian music record in 2019 which belongs to the controversial Nigerian artist, Naira Marley and left the label in 2022 as a result of conflict — torturing and unpaid oyalties between the two, claiming Naira Marley was after his life. Mohbad was best known for his hit songs; Ponmo, Feel Good, KPK, and Peace.

While he was mourned across the country, his songs gained more relevance within 24 hours of such an incident.

Following his death, claims have been surfacing online that Ikorodu boys has set Nairamarley’s house  on fire.

On Wednesday, September 13, a picture emerged on social media that Naira Marley’s house was set on fire and destroyed. A tiktok user, Melanie shared a video showing arsoning with the caption, “Ikorodu boys don go burn NairaMarley house for Lekki.”

The videos have caused a lot of controversial as can be seen here, and here.

As of Sunday’s evening,  17th of September, the posts had generated over 5 million views, liked by over 70,000 people and shared by over 4,000.

VERIFICATION

The NewsDigest subjected the first and the Facebook video to INVID, a video verification plug-in, and it showed, “no result found.”

The second search on invid showed the video was a youTube video of a house in Chicago, United States, shot on March 7, 2023.

No reliable Nigerian media has reported that the house burnt down; also going through Nairamarley’s page, nothing of such was found.

Sportskeeda also confirmed that no reliable source has confirmed the incident.

Conclusion

After thorough fact-checking, The NewsDigest  findings revealed  that Naira Marley’s house was not set on fire after the Mohbad’s death

Verdict

The videos that Nairamarley’s house  was set on fire is false and the  videos escalating online are misleading.
