UDUS 2024 Convocation: Professor Jimoh Amzat Honored as Outstanding Researcher in Art and Humanities

Professor Jimoh Amzat, a  lecturer at the department of Sociology and esteemed staff adviser  for the National Association of Campus  Journalists (NACJ), Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto has been conferred as an outstanding Researcher in Art and humanities.

This prestigious award was received at the UDUS 2024 combined Convocation grand finale held on 20th April 2024. 

Hosted at the school’s convocation theatre, the event was marked by the presentation of awards, the conferral of higher degrees, and the granting of honorary degrees to eminent personalities within and outside the university.

Professor Jimoh Amzat’s illustrious academic journey includes being a recipient of the Erasmus Mundus Scholarship in Europe during both his graduate studies and as a visiting scholar, as well as the esteemed George Forster postdoctoral Fellowship in Germany. 

His academic contributions extend beyond borders–having served as a guest lecturer at renowned institutions such as the University of Bielefeld, Germany, and EHESP School of Public Health in Rennes, France.

In an interview with The News Digest Press, Professor Amzat shared insights into the rigorous criteria and qualifications necessary to attain such an esteemed research award.

“The criteria for the research award is all inclusive, assessed in the last five years, including citations, H-Index, ResearchGate score, peer-reviewed publications in high-impact journals, PhD supervision, National and international grants won, National and international collaborations, National and international conferences attended, patents registered, copyrights and academic recognitions”, he said.

 

Expressing his elation and gratitude for the recognition, Professor Amzat a

noted his commitment to using this honor as a catalyst for motivation and encouragement among fellow researchers.

 

“I am very happy about the award because it is a recognition of consistent hard work. It’s also a maiden edition in this University. It will serve as motivation for other researchers, especially within the university.” 

 

“I  pray this, as one of the legacies of Professor Lawal Suleiman Bilbis, will be sustained,” he said.
