Recently, there has been confusions and controversies surrounding the process of the Faculty of Education and Extension Services’ Teaching Practice(TP) program for the 2022/2023 academic session.
On Tuesday, 25th April, the Chairman of TP, Doctor Abbas Mahmud released a statement that students should report to their various departmental TP coordinators with their log book from 25th April, to 2nd May, 2023.
Contrarily, another statement was released on Wednesday, 26th April, through the National Union of Education Students’ (NUESA) and signed by Professor A. M Inuwa which also stated that all student teachers should report to the faculty with immediate effect on or before Friday 28th.
The two statements have sparked confusion to many of the students regarding the actual closure date of the submission of the TP log book.
Meanwhile, for clarification,Mubarak Aliyu Kaffe, the president of NUESA released another statement on Thursday, 27th April, that the closure of the submission of the TP log book has been extended from 28th April, to 2nd May, 2023.
“This is to inform the Teaching Practice student that the deadline for the submission of the TP report is now extended from 28th April, 2023 to 2nd May, 2023,” the statement reads.
“In view of this, all the students are expected to do the necessary to avoid any unsuitable consequences.”
To wit, 2nd May, remains the tentative date for the students to report to their supervisors.
Students who have not been supervised are directed to meet the NUESA president to check the name of their supervisor. The supervisor will be the one to decide the kinds of strategy to use to assess the students.
Similarly, those students who have been supervised are expected to reach out to their supervisor to submit their log book.
At the faculty, on Friday 28th April, 2023, students were left stranded checking the names of their supervisor at the NUESA’s president office, the Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Education and Extension Services (FEES), Prof. A. M Inuwa, came to address the students, stating that those people that have seen their supervisor should put their mind at rest.
“I am aware that you are confused with respect to the Teaching Practice, this is not going to be an issue, for those who been supervise,”he said.
“Students who have not been supervised should put their mind at rest, you will be communicated by your supervisor.”
He however added that they are notified the schools will resume back on 2nd May, 2023.
Therfore, “we hereby urge students to be alert, you can be in your school; you are going to be supervised in your various schools, and at the same time your supervisor will find you, if you have not been supervised.”
He also added that no students should use this Teaching Practice as an excuse not to do the university necessity registrations. It is already known that you can do your registration anywhere — not only within the university premises.
