The Elon Musk Neuralink is a device that has a chip that processes and transmits neural signals that could be transmitted to devices like a computer or a phone.
The Neuralink Corporation is an American neurotechnology company that is developing implantable brain–computer interfaces (BCIs) based in Fremont, California. Founded by Elon Musk and a team of seven scientists and engineers.
The Neuralink was reportedly launched in 2016 and was first publicly reported in March 2017.
According to Elon Musk, the initiator, the disc collects nerve activity and sends the data to a device like a smartphone using a regular Bluetooth wireless connection. He even emphasized how well the implant fits inside the skull. During earlier presentations, monkeys were seen “playing” simple video games or controlling a cursor on a screen with their Neuralink implants. Pigs were used in the technology’s testing as
The Neuralink surgically inserts their prototype devices into the brains of living pigs, monkeys, and other animals to test them. Groups like PETA have criticised Neuralink’s techniques.
2017 through 2020
Another thing to know is that the first prototype’s technology was made public by the Neuralink team in 2019, during a live presentation at the California Academy of Sciences. A neurosurgical robot will perform the procedures using ultra-thin probes implanted into the brain, and a high-density electronic system that can analyze information from neurons will be used.
Similar brain-machine interface technologies are being developed by many businesses, including Synchron. Synchron stated in July that it had successfully implanted the country’s first human-brain-machine interface. The Neuralink team has discussed its goals, which include telepathy, the ability to upload memories into substitute bodies for later use or reference, and the potential to give the blind and paralysed the ability to see.
Neuralink was reportedly the subject of a government inquiry by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) on possible violations of animal welfare in December 2022. According to numerous Neuralink personnel, testing was hurried because Musk insisted on quick findings, which resulted in needless suffering and animal fatalities. This information was reported in a Reuters investigation.
