On Thursday evening around 8:00pm, a empty picture of the most popular lecture hall in Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, ETF3 Lecture Hall without students, with the caption ‘ETF3 dry tonight oo…sign na ur mate’ was circulating on social media. This has instilled fear that the university campus is unsafe for reading at night.
The Claim
It was claimed that the students boycotted the class because of the strange red sign painted on several places on the campus. This has instilled fear in the minds of several people as students claimed the campus is unsafe for reading at night.
While the story of ‘strange red sign’ is true, the News Digest Press can report that students did not boycott ETF 3 Lecture Hall as claimed by the caption on the picture.
Verification
Speaking with the Chairman Students’ Union Caretaker Committee, Mohammed Shamsudden Umar said at exactly 11:00pm on Thursday night, he was at the lecture hall to confirm the claim of the picture. And to his surprise, the hall is full of students as usual. And he shared photos of the class that was full of students.
“I’m inside the hall right now. All that is circulating on social media is a big lie,” he said.
Also, in a telephone conversation with Abdulwajud Olasunkami,a 400-level Education Biology student, told the News Digest Press that he was reading inside ETF 3 Lecture Hall that very night, and the time was 11:20 pm.
“I’m in the hall right now,” he said. ” And there are students in the class.”
Abdulwajud also shared photos with the News Digest Press to substantiate is claim.
The News Digest Press has learnt that the picture circulating on social media might have been shot early in the evening before students trooped into the hall for night reading or any other time but yesterday night.
Verdict
The claim that ETF 3 Lecture Hall was empty on Thursday night because of the ‘red sign’ is false and misleading. Sudents read inside the hall on Thursday night.
