INSECURITY : MANAGEMENT INSTALLS ‘STREETLIGHTS’ AT HOSTEL ENVIRONS

The management of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto has begun the installation of more streetlights at students’ hall of residence and its environs as a way of improving strategies against persistent insecurities on UDUS campus.

Speaking with our correspondent, Umar Abukakar explained what he believed to have prompted the exigent installation of streetlights by the management , noting that  it’s s never without a cause. He says ” I was there present at the scene “

In his narration, Umar said the new development was due to a serpent killed by students near an hostel block, which if penetrated to the hall of residence, the narrative would have become a different one.

“It was around 9pm on Saturday, 2nd day of February, that a big black snake was killed beside Block D, which happens to be my block, by a group of students” – narrated, Umar.

Responding to questions on the development,the Welfare Director to the Students’ Union of the university; Com. A. A Funtua affirmed the fact that the incident triggered the development, annotating that he was also an eye witness at the scene, and he believed the installation of security lights at all students’ hall of residence was in response to the picture of the killed serpent he took and sent to the Deputy Dean, Students’ Affair division of the university.

He said : “I took the pictures of the killed snake and instantly, I forwarded it to the Deputy Dean of Student’s Affair that very night. And it is because of that they have started installing and repairing those security light in all the Blocks.

While commending the management for rapid response, he reiterated that the basis of the development is mainly for students’ welferism.

“As a Welfare Director, I always see students’ welferism as a matter of priority to me. So the installation of those lights is all about the welfare of the student and the management need be applauded too, for their quick response” – he added
