An Abdullahi, Aminu Alameen has become the first graduate  to get First Class honour degree in Geology at the Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS). 

The twenty-three years old from Aleiro local government of Kebbi state graduated with 4.54 CGPA, becoming the first ever produced graduate with First Class honour degree at the department of Geology since its inception in 2013.

Speaking with NEWSDIGEST, Aminu explained how hard work,  determination, good motivators and fate contributed to his success. 

He said : “It’s not my power,its God’s. I never thought I could graduate with first class honours when I was in 100level, 200 and up-to my 300level because many were saying it’s impossible to achieve but I never doubted myself because I worked hard and prayed for it” 

“When I got to 400 level and still a First Class student, that was when I realized I could do it and I did it with a lot of dedication and determination. Though, I know people who worked harder than I did, but still didn’t graduate with what they wanted, so I believed it’s just destiny” – narrated, Aminu 

When asked of the challenges he faced during his studentship on campus and whether he partook in campus politics or other social activities on campus or not, he said : “There are several challenges especially when I was in 100level. I didn’t know anything about the school back then, and I didn’t pay much attention to my studies but eventually I studied the school and then focused on my studies because I realized it was the best thing to do”.

“I was the class rep from 100level to 400level. I held the post of Vice President of Nigerian Mining and Geoscience Societies.I was also the  Financial secretary of UDUS’ Kebbi State Students Association (KESSA) for two sessions” Aminu added. 

The outstanding student however advised students with the notion that such feat is impossible to clinch never to let such thoughts draw them back, asserting that no amount of odds can hinder the wheel of a determined mind and hardwork always pays. 

“Nothing is impossible for those who believe. Impossible is a word to be found only in the dictionary of fools. I believe it’s not easy but nothing good comes easy as well. Everything is possible if you believe. My advice is that, they should start believing and then work for it. Hardwork always pays. Also, one needs to be prayerful because even if you work hard you may need a little bit of luck to clinch the feat” – he advised.

Aminu’s Examination Officer and a lecturer at this department, Mr. I.M Ibrahim, confirmed Aminu as the first to clinch the feat since inception. 

“”Yes! We started the programme in 2013 and as one of the second set of graduands ,he is the first to graduate with First Class” – confirmed, Mr Ibrahim. 

He, however, urges students to disregard the belief that clinching First Class honour is something impossible, noting that the feat is base on performance, and nobody can deny anybody who desires, and workhard for it. 

He added : “First Class is base on performance and when you work hard,put up your efforts together for what you desire, you surely get it. Base on my experience, First Class is what anybody can get”
