Apart from what many would think as regards the expectancies of teaching profession or semblance. Whether one believes or not —not all those in charge of one duty or the other discharge with pro bono or in the interest of the students.
Therefore, talking about one who always renders listening ears to the plights of students on campus shouldn’t be a bad idea. This is a man who always ensures that the desires of students are prioritised against all odds. The man, whose by virtue of his virtuosness, kindness and great human relations is a father to many on campus.
At this juncture, we bring to you the DIGEST MAN OF THE YEAR 2018 : PROFESSOR MUHAMMAD AMINU MODE (Dean, Students’ affairs division of Usman Danfodiyo University, Sokoto)
WHO’S PROF. AMINU MODE?
Professor Muhammad Aminu Mode is the first professor of African Oral and written Literature in Sokoto. He was born in Tsamiyar Dila Area, in Sokoto North Local Government. He started his primary Education in Magajin Gari Model Primary school in 1971, after which he proceeded to Government Secondary School Tangaza in 1978. After his Secondary School he joined the University as a student and graduated in 1988 with B.A Degree in English. He later obtained M.A and PhD degrees from the same University in 1999 and 2005 respectively. Aminu Mode also obtained postgraduate Diploma in Education from the Ahmad Bello University, Sokoto Campus. This was in 2006.
He started teaching in 1989 as Master || under the Ministry of Education Sokoto. He was a Lecturer with the college of Agric, Zuru between 1991 and 1992. He transferred to the then SCAS as Assistant Lecturer in 1993.
He joined the Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto as a full time staff in March, 1995.
Aminu Mode was an Examiner for West African Examination Council (WAEC) from 1991-1999. He was the Examination Officer of the Department of Modern European Languages and Linguistics between 1996 and 2002. He was the Deputy Dean, Faculty of Arts and Islamic Studies from 2009 to 2013. He was a member, University Anti-Cultism committee, a member, credentials Verification Commitee, Chairman, university publication committee, member governing Council, Umar Ali Shinkafi polytechnic (2011-2013) chairman, university electoral committee, Chairman, University Publications Committee, Member, Governing Council, Umar Ali Shinkafi polytechnic (2011-2013) Chairman, University Electoral committee, Chairman, Committee, Chairman, Committee for Revialisation of Drug Free Club, Assistant secretary, ASUU, Editor, JALAL, the journal of languages and literatures, member, Editorial Board, DEGEL, the journal of the Faculty of Arts and Islamic Studies. He is an External examiner and Visiting Lecturer to Several Universities and a guest editor to many Local and International Journals. In addition to the above Professor Muhammad Aminu Mode has participated in many national assignments. Muhammad Aminu Mode has supervised, to successful completion, more than (40) M.A and PhD students.
Muhammad Aminu Mode has visited many countries for academic and other purposes, These include Niger, Benin, Togo, Ghana, Egypt, Indian, Ethiopia, South Sudan, North Sudan and Saudi Arabia.
Professor Muhammad Aminu Mode is a member, Literary society of Nigeria, member, English Scholars Association of Nigeria, member, African Literature Association, member, Association of Nigerian Authors. In fact, he is a member of more than 50 committees and associations in and outside the University. Professor Muhammad Aminu Mode is the current Head of English Unit, Head of the department of Modern European Languages and Linguistics, and the Dean, student affairs division and also member, University Governing Council of the prestigious Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto.
Professor Muhammad Aminu Mode is happily married with Four children.
